This is an original oil painting, Poplars. It is a very small image, about 6" by 8", and is a study I did by just going out and 'painting the day,' in this case a row of poplars. Monet also did a famous series of poplars, showing them in different lights and colors. In mine, the tiny dabs of paint are in many cases almost the same size, leading to a kind-of mosaic effect. This was completely unintentional; another painting I did at around the same time, Mosaic Beach, also has this characteristic. This helps to flatten the space in the painting, however the whitest areas of the clouds contribute more of a sense of depth. This painting is framed in a small, copper-colored wood frame, with a carved design.
